Biography - Jacques COQUILLAY
Painter

Born 3 June 1935 Coquillay depicts the diversity of human nature, extracting the subject's secrets from the clay in a judicious combination of the plastic and the psychological. To this keen observation of the model, revealing its depths, he adds a mastery of the subject, of balance in grouping, and of the continuity of the light in the models. Our eyes glide smoothly from the roundness of a shoulder, where a ray of light plays lightly on a shoulder blade, to the graceful unfurling of the point of a foot. Raised patterns, hollows, semi-flat areas, and curved outlines create an ocular sensation of fluidity and elasticity, rendering legible the muscular undulation in harmoniously light movement.
